By eating the right diet, your wounds will heal faster, and you may avoid complications like high blood pressure.  Here are some of the most important do’s and don’ts of what to eat following your surgery.

Avoid Processed Foods

One of the best things you can do for your health not only after surgery is to cut out processed foods.  Choosing foods which are whole and unprocessed will provide the maximum amount of nutrition for your body.

When you eat processed foods you’re taking in saturated fats, lots of sugar, sodium, and unhealthy additives which may be linked to cancer.

When you’re grocery shopping, you’ll find the whole foods in the produce, dairy, and meat aisle.

Eat Plenty Of Fiber

Fiber is a critical part of recovery from your surgery.  Why? Because fiber-packed foods are not only healthier, but they play a huge role in your digestion.  Constipation is a common side-effect following surgery. Not only is it irritating being backed up, but it can be painful.

Although it’s possible to take fiber supplements, it’s ideal to get fiber through foods.  You can find fiber in foods like whole grains, fruits and vegetables, and certain cereals.  Try to opt for organic options when possible.

Avoid Heavy Foods Which Can Lead To Constipation

Consider Smoothies

Some people find it hard to eat following surgery.  They may feel weak or nauseous. Therefore, you may want to consider getting your nutrients through smoothies.  For people who are having a difficult time keeping anything down, a smoothie is much easier to sip.
