Natural Cures For Jet lag
We flew first class to Hong Kong but came back on economy and getting over Jet lag last week was pretty brutal. During my sleepless hours in the middle of the night I did some research on natural remedies that can help Jet lag. Here’s some food and drink tips you can try the next time you embark on a lengthly international flight.
Water – drink plenty of it during the flight. The air in the plane is dry and sucks out the water out of your body. Drinking plenty of water also gives you an added incentive to get out of your seat to go to the bathroom. I like to just bring a 1 L plastic bottle and refill it during the flight. Although I had some problems with the flight attendants on Continental not allowing me to refill from the bottles for fear of spreading germs. I guess this is a good thing.
Vitamin B – Commonly recognized as a hangover cure, a Vitamin B boost seems to stave off practically anything including jetlag. At the very least, it restores energy and re-hydrates you.
Melatonin – Your body produces this when it is exposed to sun and it’s involved in your natural sleep cycles. You can get this at your local pharmacy or GNC store.
Sprite / 7 Up / Tonic Water – These are great to just help jumpstart your stomach. I had a loss of appetite when I came back and drinking these helped me
Sleeping Pills – Still can’t sleep? Try medications like Ambien, Sonata and other pills that don’t cause daytime drowsiness. These require prescription so as a last ditch effort try Tylenol PM. Although Tylenol or Aspirin related drugs can leave you with a ‘hangover’ type feeling the next morning.
