Homemade Belgian Waffles Waffle Recipe with Waring Pro Waffle Iron

Got an early Christmas present and tried this out last weekend. I thought I would share the recipe with you and with the Waffle Iron, it’s really easy to make your own waffles in your own home.

Homemade Waffle Recipe (8 waffles)

3/4 cup of whole milk
3 tablespoons of sugar
1 1/4 teaspoon of active dry yeast
2/3 cup plus 2 tablespoons of all purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon of salt
2 large eggs
1/2 teaspoon of pure almond extract
3 tablespoons unsalted butter
1/3 cup of sliced almonds

Vanilla Ice Cream
1/2 cup of mixed berries.

1. Combine milk with 1 tablespoon of sugar and heat in a saucepan until about 110F. Pour the milk into a small bowl and mix in yeast. Let stand for 10 mins or until yeast bubbles.

2. Whisk together flour, salt and remaining 2 tablespoons of suagar in a medium bowl. In another bowl, whisk eggs until blended. Whisk in yeast mixutre and almond extract. Make a well in the center of the flour mixture and pour the liquid ingredients into the well. Mix in melted butter and almonds. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let rest for 2 hours.

3. Pour into waffle iron and cook. Garnish with ice cream and/or berries.

  • I received this waffle iron for Christmas 2005. All that winter I was making really good waffles using the Krusteaz waffle mix. But I noticed I had to increase the setting to get the waffle crispy. Now my waffles split in two – half is on the top and half is on the bottom. They aren’t burned, but I have to pry the waffle out of the iron and I can’t understand. I thought I wasn’t supposed to spray the iron with anything or grease the iron because of the mix used. Can you tell me what I”m doing wrong? Should I try this recipe instead of the mix?
