Home made Cha Xiu Recipe – Chinese BBQ Pork
Yes, it’s home made. It’s easy and you can make it too! Cha Xiu (Chinese BBQ Pork) is a popular component in many Cantonese dishes. You’ll find Cha Xiu served with rice, in noodle dishes, and of course it’s the main ingredient in the classic Dim Sum dish Cha Xiu Bao (BBQ Pork Bun). Here’s a basic recipe for Cha Xiu that’s pretty easy – it’s more technique than ingredients.
Cha Xiu Recipe Ingredients
1 Tablespoon of Honey
Lee Kum Kee Cha Xiu Sauce
It’s best to use the BBQ to get the smoky flavor but if the BBQ is not possible, you can always use your oven by hanging the pork off of the top rack and placing a drip pan or aluminum foil on the bottom rack. Take the pork strips out of the marinade, drain the sauce and reserve the marinade. Use an S-shaped hook to attach one end of each pork strip to the top rack in the oven or BBQ, making sure they dangle freely. Cook at 300F in the oven or BBQ over hot coals for 20 mins. Slice across the grain. Boil the saved marinade and the drippings then brush on the cooked meat. Enjoy!
