We joined my family out in Las Vegas over the weekend for a short vacation. One of the places we dined at was the Jasmine Restaurant at the Bellagio Casino in Las Vegas. Still in awe just after watching the Cirque Du Soleil ” O ” at Bellagio, we entered Jasmine for a real treat. Jasmine is decorated in a rich Rococo French Salon style with beautiful sparkling chandliers, and an awe inspiring front row seat of the Bellagio Casino water fountain show. The food is inspired by contemporary and classic Cantonese, Szechuan, and Hunan dishes. Chef Philllip Lo creates specialies including Maine Lobster Dumplings with Ginger Sauce, Minced Squab on Lettuce wraps and Imperial Peking Duck. A lot of these dishes you can get 20 minutes away in Chinatown for 1/4 of the price but that’s not really the point. The food is light and refreshing and not overly greasy as you would find in your Chinatown digs. As with most things Las Vegas - extravagence is job #1. We started with a great traditional carrot soup ($10/ bowl) that was bursting with flavor. We also sampled a variety of dishes including tenderloin Mongolian beef, fresh steamed gouper, and braised duck served in claypot with eggplant. We did laugh that they had a familiar dish named “General Chicken” - guess the chef didn’t want to mention General Tsao but it’s basically the same dish for $22. In anycase, the experience and atmosphere is worth the price of the meal. Be sure to check out Jasmine at the Bellagio Casino Hotel in Las Vegas.
