Tea Flavored Eggs - Chinatown NY
There’s a Chinese food cart right on Elizabeth and Hester that serves some good street food such as zhongzi (sticky rice wrapped in lotus leaves) and tea flavored eggs. Tea eggs are hardboiled eggs that have been soaked in tea for a long duration to give a distinct flavoring. The eggs are a dark brown color on the outside shell and when you crack them open the egg whites are brownish in color. The tea flavor basically permeates all troughout the egg including the yolk. You can get them in a variety of flavors of tea but the ones I got that day were a little on the salty side but very delicious for only $.25/ each. (Sorry there was a misprint, it’s a quarter for each egg not $25/each)
