Miss Favela Brazilian Restaurant Samba Music Bar Williamsburg Brooklyn NY
57 South Fifth Street
Brooklyn New York
Located on the foot of the Williamsburg Bridge, Miss Favela Brazillian Botequim Restaurant is a nice retreat away from the busy ‘boulevard’ bars of Bedford Ave. In the Summer time, Miss Favela offers outdoor seating where the breezes of the East River just makes this place even more relaxing. Until then, you can always enjoy the hot live Samba music every Saturday afternoon till around 6/7pm (check their music calendar for updates) Arrive early though, cause this place gets packed full of the local Brazillians of NY dancing samba in between the tables.
The menu is impressive with some great Brazillian dishes such as Moqueca de Peixe e Pirão or Fish stew with onions, tomatoes, green peppers, fresh cilantro and coconut milk. Served with pirão, a puree made of fish, fish stock, yucca flour and spices $20. Served with a side of rice and beans, this dish is plenty enough for 2 but you can also upgrade and order the larger $30 bowl. It’s packed with succulent chunks of fish bathed in a refreshing coconut milk broth. They also offer a variety of steaks (Bife acebolado com couve Sirloin steak sauteed with onions and collard greens $17.50, Bife à cavalo e couve Sirloin steak with 2 fried eggs and collard greens $17.50, Bife à Milanesa com batata Sirloin steak, breaded and fried, served with fries $17.50, Picanha fatiada Succulent prime cut top sirloin steak with yucca flour and vinaigrette $19.50) and vegetarian dishes with sides of Feijão or Beans.
For Brunch, Miss Favela offers a similar menu as the Dinner along with large omlet plates: (Fritada com Carne Seca Open omelet with beef jerky $11.50, Fritada com Bacalhau Open omelet with codfish $11.50, Fritada com Calabresa Open omelet with brazilian sausage $11.50, Fritada com Palmito Open omelet with palmito $11.50)
I’m on day 18 of the spring liver cleanse diet with 3 days to go so I’ll be sure to be heading back out to Miss Favela very soon indeed!
