Famous Street Tacos at 96th and Broadway – Upper West Side NY
Back in 99′ when I first moved to NY, I lived way up on 95th and Riverside. ( I guess it’s not so far north now that I’m in Spanish Harlem. ) One of the most memorable delights of the neighborhood was the street taco truck parked conveniently outside of the 96th 2/3/1/9 subway stop. Let me just tell you that these tacos were a life saver – especially coming home on those late nights on the town. These greasy tasty street tacos are a perfect way to prevent your next day hangovers for sure. I usually get the carnitas (roast pork) taco. It’s served on 2 corn tortillas and seasoned with cilantro, and grilled onions. You can add to your liking the appropriate amount of red or green salsa, lime juice or jalapenos. All this for just $2 each taco! The prices haven’t changed either so this is still a great bargain. Get a few of these and a bottle of Jarritos or fresh Horchata and you are set. My favorite is the carnitas but the menu is quite extensive and authentic including beef tongue, beef steak, chicken, goat, and more. Next time you find yourself in this area be sure to look out for the huge silver Super Tacos truck parked on the SW corner of 96th and Broadway. I love this place!
