Peppe Rosso to Go
Italian Restaurant SOHO – Pasta Panini
149 Sullivan St
New York, NY 10012-3065
Cross Street: Between Houston Street and Prince Street
If you’re in the mood for Italian resist the tourist traps of Little Italy and head over to SOHO (about 15 minute walk) to Peppe Rosso to go. Don’t expect a full wait staff at your beck and call though – this place seats about 13 people max and thus the name. It’s a no frills place where you order your food at the counter and bus your own table afterwards. But the food is definitely worthwhile. We started with a salad with slices of mozzarella and tomatoes. The slices of cheese were mighty thick – this salad could be a light dish for one. I ordered Penne with Pancetta with a vodka sauce which as equally delicious, but my favorite was the special that night which was Gnocchi with sausage and a cream sauce seasoned with saffron. What a great combination and the saffron was a great surprise to this dish. It’s quite rich though so we didn’t get to finish everything off. But I’m definitely going to head back again to try out their Panini sandwiches which I’ve heard are equally incredible.
FYI Peppe Rosso used to be a BYOB place but now they have wine and beer available. I’m sure it’s cool if you bring your own though. They also don’t accept credit cards.
