Up in Boston a few weeks ago for a business trip and we took our clients out to the Sibling Rivalry Restaurant down in the trendy South End district of Boston. Sibling Rivalry was opened by 2 brothers David and Robert Kinkead. Growing up in a family of 10, the brothers found a lot to fight over and now they have the restaurant kitchen as their latest arena. The menu at the restaurant is categorized by various ingredients and the 2 brothers create separate dishes for you to choose from. ( It’s kind of like the Iron Chef type of competition except you can’t see them actually cooking it and it takes less than an hour to get your food). We had a large table so we tried a variety of appetizers – the Tuna Tartar over warm sushi rice served with spicy aioli, pickled ginger and a soy sauce glaze was one of the memorable dishes. I tried the Seared Rare Tuna with Braised Fennel, Garlic Confit, Marinated Dried Tomatoes, Thyme and Chick Pea Fries, Served wtih Aioli ( $29.00 ). I was expecting a little more sauce to dip the Tuna as the garlic confit just didn’t do it – however the dish itself was presented beautifully and was great overall. For dessert, we ordered family style as well and the Maple Pecan Cake with Banana Maple Custard and Candied Pecans ($9.00) hit the spot. A very interesting concept for a restaurant and definitely worth checking out. I think overall that night Chef David got the most votes.
