One thing I’ve noticed since coming back to New York after 3 years is the large number of Japanese independent stores and restaurants. There’s a few stores for example down on Lafayette in SOHO that sell skateboarding gear and fashionable clothes and have that Tokyo Pop edge to them. I’m quite impressed I have to say. Last week visited the Cream Puff franchise of Beard Papa. OK what kind of name is Beard Papa? I’m not exactly clear but apparently when Beard Papa Cream Puffs opened last year on the Upper West Side, the line was out the door and around the block. Kind of like Krispy Cream Donuts when it opened out in Las Vegas. Anyhow Beard Papa specializes in cream puffs and like Krispy Cream, they feature hot and fresh baked goods. At Beard Papa, you have a choice of filling including chocolate, vanilla, and green tea flavors. It’s all about freshness – Beard Papa bakes cream puffs and fills them immediately.

How do Beard Papa cream puffs taste? We tried the vanilla flavored and it was actually quite good. The cream filling was excellent, but I guess I didn’t time it right because the dough wasn’t hot anymore. I’m not a big fan of cream puffs , but this is an interesting novelty place to check out.

On a side note, I just spotted a Cream Puff cart on 51st street between 6th and 7th avenue. It’s a mobile version of Beard Papa called Choix Croissant or something like that. I feel sorry for the Japanese girl in the cart manning the oven – it’s like 90 outside!

I don’t think so since these cream puffs are best enjoyed freshly “puffed”. However you can ask them and give it a try:

ofcourse they can be shipped anywhere in CONUS,or worldwide for that matter.Cost would depend on size, weight, speed of delivery and carrier. However I wouldn’t count on same quality before shipping and as delivered.
