At a glance, the Turf Club is just another dimly lit lounge bar decorated in 60’s era decor replete with tufted black leather booths under a glow of red lights. Playful jams from an old jukebox creap into the din of the bar chatter (Sometimes live piano music on the weekends). The difference however as you’ll soon notice is the smoky aroma of grilled meats and the boisterous crowd of people hovering over a small grill in the middle of the bar! That’s right, a grill inside of the bar! Here at the Turf Club, you can flip burgers and steaks with one hand and down cocktails and draft beer with the other. What a great concept!
Do you remember the last time you were at a bar, having a few drinks then suddenly got a little hungry for some home cooked food? Well at the Turf Club, you can drink, cook, and eat all at the same time. I can’t believe there aren’t more of these type of bars and grills around. Well, there is the copy-cat Strip Club in the Gas Lamp area but it’s more expensive and basically made for those posers on their way to the W hotel. Every night at the Turf Club on the other hand is a BBQ party - a fun place to hang out and mingle at the grill.
The meats are all pre-marinated and include Sirloin, Rib Eye, Fillet Mignon, burgers, and kebabs. They also have large portabello mushrooms and other vegetarian options for those inclined. Chicken is also available. Next to the grill is an arsenal of grilling seasonings including A1 steak sauce, salt, pepper, Worcester sauce, ketchup, BBQ sauce, and more. There’s a set of communal BBQ tongs and a flipper but sometimes it’s more fun to get your hands dirty and play with the fire. Just a tip though, if you burn your meal it’s your own fault - no refunds for poor cooks. Also keep an eye on your meat - someone took off with my large rib eye once and I was left with their sorry skinny sirloin.
This night I ordered my favorite, the Delmonico Rib Eye Steak:

Here it is off the grill : A sizzling juicy medium rare with my toasted garlic bread flavored with two ripe tomatoes.

The Job Party
This night was also my “going away” party at my job Business Online I had a really fun time and learned a lot at this company with so many cool folks. Surely a real close knit energetic group of talented hardworking people. I’m going to miss working here for sure. Thanks everyone!

What a great place to hang out, drink and eat great food with a bunch of friends! I just got home from a great “going away” party that some friends had in my honor at the Turf Club. I recommend the Delmonico Rib-eye for anyone who wants a great steak at a great price. The staff and the other patrons were fun and friendly. My only regret is that I am moving from the San Diego area and will have fewer occasions to enjoy The Turf Club.
***** - 5 Stars for The Turf Club

You forgot to mention the awesome LIVE MUSIC! JD Boucharde plays live piano every 1st & 3rd Sunday of the month. There’s another fellow on the alternate sundays, too!
