Homemade German Style Potato Pancakes Recipe
While I was out in Germany in Jan, I got hooked on these easy to make potato pancakes. You can get a frozen packet of 10 for really cheap and fry up a batch in minutes. Traditionally you eat them with applesauce. Here’s a really easy recipe to make a fresh batch on your own.
Homemade German Style Potato Pancakes Recipe Ingredients
(Makes about 10-15 pancakes)
5-6 potatoes
2 eggs
1/2 cup of breadcrumbs or panko breadcrumbs
salt & pepper to season
Peel and grate potatoes into a bowl. Add eggs and panko breadcrumbs. Mix with hands. Heat up a non stick frying pan to medium high and add either olive oil or butter. Take a large scoop of the batter and place into the frying pan. Use a wooden spoon or flat spatula and smash down the batter to form a flat pancake. Fry till golden brown on each side (about 4-5mins). Remove from pan and dab on a paper towel before serving or store on a warmed plate in the oven. To make perfectly round shaped pancakes, use a cookie cutter or a wide mouth glass to cut the pancake after frying. Serve with applesauce. Enjoy!
