What’s the best food guide book of New York? You know how I feel about Zagat’s, and the Michelin Guide isn’t extensive enough. Personally I like the Time Out New York Guide the best. Why? It’s got great coverage in all neighborhoods and price ranges, it’s easy to use and the results are based upon a survey by the people for the people.
Here’s some of my picks:
Best barbecue
*Fette Sau
Georgia’s Eastside BBQ
Hill Country
R.U.B.
Fette Sau - In Williamsburg. They serve their BBQ by the pound!
Best new fast food
*Five Guys
Go! Go! Curry
Maoz
Zen Burger
I haven’t tried Zen Burger or Maoz, but Five Guys is one of the go to spots in Midtown for fresh burgers especially with their long list of special toppings.
Best neighborhood bistro
L’Absinthe
*Bar Tabac
La Sirene
Régate
I like Bar Tabc. It’s a friendly fun bistro in Brooklyn with a great brunch menu and awesome drink specials. On the corner of Smith and Dean, it’s got great outdoor seating which is key during the Spring and Summer.
Best pastry-chef-run restaurant
Falai
Graffiti
* P*ong
Tailor
I’ve only tried the desserts at P*ong but the food looks and smells amazing.
Best new Spanish restaurant
Mercat
Pamplona
El Quinto Pino
*Suba
It’s not true Spanish, more fusion but the food is creative and refreshing. The space is also quite impressive, especially downstairs in the ‘grotto’ area.
