So I just found one of the most blatant deli scams in Midtown. Ok, it’s not like food isn’t already overpriced enough in this neighborhood. Welcome to the $8 deli sandwich or the small mesclun salad for $9. At the Bread Market Cafe they used to sell 2 sizes of Yogurt Parfait: a large for $3.69 and $2.29 for the Small. Yesterday, I went in to grab a large but was surpised to find only a jokingly small sized yogurt - seriously it’s just about 5 spoonfuls weighing in at approx 4-6oz. The large now is what used to be the small sized yorgurt (see photo below - I’ve included a ruler for prosperity sake should Bread Market Cafe decide to further shrink their yorgurts). I asked the checkout guy and he laughed and blamed it on the management about the new
convenient switch. Ok, I understand there is intense competition in the neighborhood for breakfast and lunch. Seriously, there are so many deli salad bars in Midtown that you’re always within a 20 ft radius of one. But let’s be honest, why skimp on the yogurt? I just went to the grocery store last night and bought a huge container yogurt ($2.79) + a box of granola cereal ($4.59). I guess as long as there is a fool that continues to buy at that price they’ll continue to sell. Not this fool.
