Welcome to my Barrio. Something that I can’t get enough of is the great selection of affordable Spanish cuisine up in Spanish Harlem. You can get great homemade dishes for cheap and they taste amazing. Such is the case with El Barrio Restaurant Fondita. Despite the countertop and stools in the small space of
El Barrio, you actually feel like you’re more inside of mama’s kitchen vs. in a restaurant. She’s got a long table top filled with delicious chicken and pork – some stewed some baked. Beans and yellow rice also stand by ready to be doled out. You can get a medium (which is actually quite large
for 2 people) for just $3.50. Really hungry? Upgrade to the mammoth $5.00 and you get even more. A much better deal than I got down at Pedros Tacos in DUMBO. This is a great and convenient restaurant that is just steps away from the subway entrance. Come up to my Barrio and enjoy anytime!

I pass this place on the way to Food Master. I’ll have to check it out. That’s really quite a large plate
(I can see the “Food Center” in the background in the first picture. I wonder how they manage to stay in business).
There’s a great Spanish place on 106th b/w 3rd and Lex…La Fonda Boricua which is also quite good.
I’m always intrigued by the other Mexican Restaurants a little further down Lexington. They blast the music so loud that I’m afraid to go in for fear of hearing damage.
Dude…I’ve lived in this hood all my life, and I eat at some grimy spots, but I personally avoid this place.
