Out in Clinton Hill near Pratt University on DeKalb near Adelphi there’s a whole block of newer trendy restaurants but we were aiming to go for some more local this time. My girlfriend knew of a Jamaican place she went to several years ago but we weren’t sure about where it was exactly so we started asking several people on the street. It’s funny because all the trendy art school kids had no clue nor did any of the neighborhood people sitting outside of their apartments. I did see a guy in dreads wearing a Jamaican hat but I kind of thought that wouldn’t be too cool to ask
him - afterall a few weeks ago when we were walking down Houston near the Angelika theatre some crazy caucasian guy asks us out of the blue where Wo Hop chinese restaurant was. It was funny but I didn’t want to piss of the Jamaican guy. Eventually my girlfriend found someone who’s heard of the place and we walked 2 blocks on Adelphi over to Myrtle.
The place is called Buff Patty and one of their specialities are these hand make these patties that are fried in dough - basicaly like an empanada. They stuff the patties with various meats like curry goat, jerked chicken, beef, fish, etc. That day all the meats were out except for beef and vegetable so we ordered one beef patty. I got a plate of the curry goat and my girlfriend got the jerked chicken. Overall they were both pretty good and reasonably priced - slightly a little salty for us but definitely worth the trip to Clinton Hill.
FYI they also have these “Jamaican” drinks but probably for loser tourists like us:

Jamaicans drink that too. It’s in every West Indian food spot in the city.

I should really try that place. My mom lives in CH. I think she orders food from RICE everynight. She never has time to cook.

Buff Patty has good food. Their fried chicken, jerk wings, chicken patties, beef roti, oxtail stew, beef stew and king fish/red snapper dishes are all excellent.KrikKrak is on Amsterdam and W 101st st.and their food is good too. But you can go to Kombit on Flatbush Ave for good Haitian food, especially the griot.
